Abstract Submission Guidelines

General Requirements

All abstracts must report original work not previously published or presented at a major national/international meeting. Abstracts are submitted electronically via the online portal and undergo blinded peer review.

Word Count & Length

  • Maximum 250–300 words for the abstract body (excluding title, authors, and affiliations).

  • Title: maximum 20 words.

  • No more than one table or one figure (where the platform permits); figures count toward any stated character/space limits.

Formatting Specifications

  • Font: Arial or Times New Roman, 12 pt (11 pt acceptable within tables).

  • Line spacing: single.

  • Alignment: justified or left-aligned; no manual hyphenation.

  • Title: sentence case, bold. Do not use ALL CAPS.

  • Use only standard abbreviations; define any non-standard abbreviation at first use.

  • Use generic (not proprietary/brand) drug and device names.

  • SI units throughout; use a leading zero for decimals (e.g. 0.5, not .5).

Required Structured Format

Original research abstracts must follow a structured format under these headings:

  1. Purpose / Introduction — the research question or objective.

  2. Methods — study design, setting, participants, interventions, and analysis.

  3. Results — key findings with actual data (numbers, statistics, confidence intervals or p-values where relevant). Avoid "results will be discussed."

  4. Conclusion — the principal conclusion supported by the data, and its relevance.

Case reports should use: Introduction, Case Description, Discussion/Conclusion.

Authorship & Affiliations

  • List all authors (surname followed by initials) with numbered institutional affiliations.

  • Identify the presenting author and the corresponding author (with email).

  • Ensure all named authors have approved the submission and meet authorship criteria.

Categories / Themes

Select one primary category at submission (e.g. Cataract & Refractive, Cornea & Ocular Surface, Glaucoma, Medical Retina, Vitreoretinal, Neuro-ophthalmology, Paediatrics & Strabismus, Oculoplastics, Education & Training, Global/Public Health Ophthalmology).

Presentation Type

Indicate your preference: oral (paper) or poster. The scientific committee reserves the right to reassign the format.

Ethics & Disclosures

  • State ethical approval / institutional review board reference for research involving patients, human data, or animals.

  • Confirm patient consent for any identifiable images or case details.

  • Declare all financial or commercial conflicts of interest.

Key Dates & Rules

  • Submissions close at 23:59 GMT on 18/09/26; no late submissions.

  • Only abstracts by registered delegates will be scheduled for presentation.

  • Notification of acceptance by 01/10/26.

  • One presenting author may present a limited number of accepted abstracts (typically no more than two as presenter).

Language & Proofreading

Abstracts must be in English and carefully proofread. Submissions with significant spelling, grammatical, or data errors may be rejected without review.
